How To Be Authentic In Your Writing

How can you be yourself in your writing so you don't sound like everybody else when you're producing content for your articles, ezine, blog and whatever else? That is, how can you be unique or, at least, original?

1 Write about what you already know. If you already know enough about a topic, that's great and you can go right ahead. But even if you don't yet know enough, or anything, go away from the writing and find out about the topic first. There is a lot of free information on the internet. Just do some work to get the details you need and organize them into a coherent outline or plan. Then, start writing.

2 Don't be stuffy. Writing in internet marketing is a world away from any kind of formal or academic writing. So forget all about the usual conventions as you write. That is, ignore possible spelling, grammar and paragraphing mistakes. Just get the writing done, then check it afterwards.

3 You're not addressing a teacher or tutor. Rather you're giving valuable information that will help someone in internet marketing and who might become your customer or subscriber. Partner with them rather than address them. Give useful information in a conversational way to show how you could help them in their business by working with them. It's the old idea of imagining you're talking to someone over a coffee.

4 Write, write, write. People don't write enough. They reckon it's a special occasion thing and that anything they produce will attract readers. To get enough readers you have to produce plenty of valuable content. You learn to write by writing, just like you learn to drive a car by driving. The more you write the more conversational your tone will become, especially if you write at some speed and don't spend time hesitating and criticising yourself as you do so.
